"I don't think he should have been invited here to speak to students," student Morgan Wild, 23, told Reuters. "I think it's part of a crass PR campaign to rehabilitate his reputation and we shouldn't be taken for fools."
Strauss-Kahn calls sexual encounter with maid a 'moral failing'
"It's got nothing to do with freedom of speech," said student Francesca Williams, 21. "They're inviting a man who hates women. I don't think DSK should be given the privilege of speaking in front of a private audience."
Cambridgeshire Police said a 19-year-old man was arrested for assaulting a police officer and a woman, 22, was detained for a breach of the peace. Two others were arrested on Friday morning after banners were plastered all over the Union Society building.
The Cambridge News website displayed photos showing its walls defaced with messages including "DSK GO AWAY" and "WOMEN DESERVE BETTER."

Diallo's lawyer, Douglas Wigdor, spoke to about 100 Cambridge students and journalists on her behalf at a rival event earlier Friday.
According to the Guardian newspaper, Wigdor said he was "flabbergasted" at the invitation. He called it "an affront to all victims of sexual crimes."
"The history of Cambridge and the history of the union are now interspersed with Strauss-Kahn. I don't blame Strauss-Kahn. I blame the union," he said.
A statement posted Friday on the Cambridge union's website said the invitation was made well before Strauss-Kahn's controversial departure from the IMF. His experience in French politics mean that he was "exceptionally well qualified" to speak on the financial crisis and the French presidential election, it said.
Some of those attending the speech, many of them economics or politics students, agreed. They said they wanted to hear about Strauss-Kahn's experiences in the IMF and politics, not his personal life.
"This is a forum for free speech," said politics student Milad Matin, 21. "It's not a value judgement. I'm not endorsing rape by watching him speak."
Strauss-Kahn held in French prostitution probe
Strauss-Kahn has mostly kept a low profile since New York prosecutors dismissed charges of attempted rape and sexual assault against him in August, based on concerns about Diallo's credibility. But in recent months he has rejoined the international speech circuit.
Though the criminal case is over, the first civil court hearing over Diallo's claims is scheduled for March 28.
Video surveillance footage from the New York City hotel where former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn was accused of sexually assaulting a maid is raising new questions in the case. NBC's Michael Isikoff reports.
Strauss-Kahn was also held for two days in January in a police station in the northern French city of Lille, where investigators questioned him about allegations that a prostitution ring organized by his business acquaintances provided women for clients of Lille's Carlton Hotel.
Police want to establish whether Strauss-Kahn knew that women at parties he attended in Lille, Paris and Washington were prostitutes. His lawyer has said Strauss-Kahn had no reason to think so.

What is news is that DigiTimes reports Apple intends to introduce a new version of last year?s tablet, the iPad 2. Speaking of reductions, there?s a second rumor about iPad iterations from DigiTimes, stating that Apple intends to roll out an iPad model with a 7.85-inch screen. That?s significantly smaller than the 10.1-inch screen the iPad currently sports (and would put the iPad in a size category the late Steve Jobs famously insulted), and would mean another price reduction, down to between $249 and $299, according to the report. DigiTimes says that iPad could be on its way to shelves in the third quarter of 2012.

BOSTON, MA February 29, 2012 TREM Rx, Inc., a biotechnology company with a proprietary technology platform for novel vaccines delivered to the skin, announced today the results of an in vivo preclinical study that shows, for the first time, that powerful cells of the immune system called TREMs (T Resident Effector Memory cells) prevalent in the skin can mediate a protective immune response that is far stronger than memory T cells that circulate in the bloodstream. The study was published in today's online edition of Nature and was led by TREM Rx scientific founder, Dr. Thomas S. Kupper, the Thomas B. Fitzpatrick Professor of Dermatology at Harvard Medical School, and chair of Dermatology at Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
This research and previous work by Dr. Kupper's group demonstrated that a stronger generalized T cell immune response, and in particular a more robust TREM response, can be produced by delivering a viral vaccine vector to the upper skin tissues, as compared to below the skin or into the muscle. This new research reveals why novel vaccines administered to upper layers of the skin in preclinical models have demonstrably better preventative and therapeutic efficacy over conventional vaccine injection into the muscles or bloodstream. TREM Rx has exclusive rights to this vaccine-relevant intellectual property as the basis for the company's proprietary technology platform for developing novel vaccines.
"Conventional vaccines are typically focused on optimizing the B cell arm of the immune system to create disease-fighting antibodies. In contrast, this study shows that a more effective path to immunity may be to engage this newly discovered part of the T cell arm of the immune system through a population of powerful immune cells that we now know reside in the skin, lung, gut, and other epithelial tissues," said Thomas S. Kupper, MD, senior author of the Nature paper.
"Putting this research in historical context, it helps explain the uniquely powerful efficacy of the first successful vaccine developed for smallpox by Jenner in 1796," said Kupper. "Syringes had not yet been invented, so Jenner administered the first vaccine by disrupting the upper layers of skin with a specialized needle, a process similar to how the vaccinia virus was delivered in our study. It is worth remembering that the smallpox vaccine remains the most effective vaccine in the history of medicine, resulting in the elimination of smallpox in human populations."
In the preclinical study in Nature, vaccinia virus delivered to the skin was found to rapidly recruit viral-specific T cells, called TREMs (T Resident Effector Memory cells), not just to the infected site, but also to all areas of the skin. These TREMs remained in skin, and provided rapid and effective protection against a second infection from the same virus. While skin was used as a model system in the study, the results are relevant to epithelial cells in the lungs, GI tract, and other epithelial tissues that are sites of viral entry to the body.
The findings of this study challenge immunological dogma by suggesting that the most important elements of T cell memory and immunity to infectious diseases may reside in skin and other epithelial tissues mediated by TREMs, rather than by circulating T or B cells in the blood. With regard to the impact on vaccine design and delivery, the study suggests that vaccines to generate TREM can be optimized by delivery through epithelial tissues, for a potentially more effective immune response than is achieved with conventional vaccine injection.

We?re counting down the days until Apple?s March 7 announcement that will likely mark the launch of the next iteration of its iPad tablet, but the rumors are still pouring in about what we can expect.
All of these rumors make some sense given the changes to the tablet landscape that have occurred in the last few months. Lower-priced iPad 2s and 7.85-inch screens would help Apple to take on the cheaper tablets from Amazon and Barnes & Noble, the Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet, respectively. These made a pretty big impact on the market this holiday season. Both tablets sport bargain prices but some pretty big reductions in power when compared the iPad, but they?re also attacking a segment of the market that no other device maker has really been able to take advantage of up to now.
